Hi friends it's Yiming again! It's been like more than 2 months before I sent this new piece of newsletter (is this sentence correct) but anyways... A lot of stuff random happened and also usual busy things I never got around to making any updates, hopefully I can get more consistent from now on.

What's New

BCon 2024

I was in Blender Conference in Amsterdam in late October, it was still a super cool event and I once again ran out of my art cards (I mean if people love them I could technically print some extra and sell on my website lol)! If you are reading this and are also in this time's Blender conference, Hi! :D

This time I mostly took videos and the entire trip video was now up on this YouTube playlist^↗, also the same thread is on my website^↗.

Also looks like more people liked my Miniworld Rotterdam^↗ video, I like the place very much personally as well. Miniature trains and cars and stuff, pretty cool! Go check it out!

Zhuhai Airshow 2024

SO in November I went to the Zhuhai Airshow (well because later there was a Blender day thing in Shenzhen I figured why not). It was pretty cool! A lot of Chinese and Russian planes. Also there's an H135 from Airbus/Eurocopter, a Pilatus PC-24 dirt jet. Also, a real GTF gearbox from a PW1000G which is super coool!

Some interesting takeaways from the exhibitions:

• Hybrid/Electric airplanes are starting to take off. A lot of companies making turbo/piston engine coupled generator power units for electric VTOLs and conventional fixed wing / rotary aircraft.
• Chinese ICs are pretty good for this kind of use cases now. All domestic ICs for satellites. Also domestically made oscilloscope is on display. Not sure about the inside, probably all domestic as well.
• Power semiconductors seems to be a bottleneck still since there's not many companies showing them despite the rise of electric planes.
• All domestically produced avionics/simulator/projectors are on display and playable. Those avionics supply Chinese license made DA-42/DA-62 trainer aircraft.

May go there in 2026 as well. Hope their traffic solution isn't as bad as this time lmao

Updates on Our Paint

For people who's following the development of Our Paint^↗, I have made some optimizations for Android as well as desktop to polish the usability of the program especially for new comers. It's still a bit clumsy but if you are familiar with programs like blender you probably will get used to it pretty quickly now.

Some more stuff still needs to be done before I could release the android version. However, I have finally added the actual application icon for the APK so it looks more like a finished program.

Btw for Android version I'm considering a cheap price instead of it being free, just to test if there's actual people would spend the money. I may need to contact some sales/marketing person from the app store side for ideas.

Not gonna be on steam for now. Unless someone is willing to make those nonsense shop assets for me.

Plans

The "busy" part of my life stuff has settled a bit, I need to reorganize my room so I can get into drawings & paintings easier instead of that being the Internet.

Otherwise, nothing much new. I hope I could get more thumbnail polished by the end of the month for my next experimental project. If nothing else, I at least could get a few more splash image candidates for Our Paint :D
