Yiming's News 02/04/2025

Hi friends, it's Yiming again. It's been quite some time since I sent out my last newsletter in December... A lot of things happened (and sort of nothing really?) since then and long story short, there's Chinese new year, and ugh I caught some virus or something from all the conferences last year and still been coughing for this whole time and doctors now gave me some asthma inhaler and let's see if it changes anything but anyways...

Just as I was sending this newsletter I found out the SMTP thing on my website is broken again and I had to fix it...

What's New

OurPaint v0.4

I have released OurPaint v0.4^↗ :D It's got a bunch of stability fixes, interface improvements and most importantly OurPaint is now available on Android! If you got an Android phone or tablet, you can go to my itch shop^↗ and download the android apk for $10 :D

Besides, I am working on a full spectral canvas support for the next version of OurPaint, it will have a new set of system for choosing/mixing colors, displaying them on canvas, and exporting. It will also be a bit heavy on calculations, I'm not sure how well it can run when everything is implemented, but it will be interesting.

BTW for this project I was also working on a script language called "S8Lang^↗" atm, it is kinda like a mix of forth and lua, it will be compiled into string-free byte code, and runs on a stack-based virtual machine, and is meant to be compiled on the target itself (can be on your computer too, if the target has too small of a memory).

I haven't written up any extensive explanation for these two things yet, but you can follow those links and they will be updated with more info as I go.

Does anyone want to participate in a zine?

This is an idea has been floating around in my head. I want to organize an art zine project, where for every month (?) we have a bunch (?) of artists come put together a bunch of artworks loosely in some specific themes that we have interests in, then we can share the PDF and even print them out to hand out to friends, it's gonna be so much more interesting than just having an online art gallery or post or something purely virtual.

The reason for doing this thing:

• It's so much more fun than doing whatever you like by yourself.
• We can gather a collection of artwork/ideas revolving some common interest topics that it's hard to come by when you just blindly searching on the internet.
• It's also like an accountability thing where it will force the participants to have some consistency in participation.
• You can do some physical prints, and it's a nice thing to hold something you made in your hand.

All visual art forms are accepted (as long as you can put it in a pdf), like comics, singular pieces, writings (like, especially? because it will go so well with drawings), memes even (had to be original).

And the subject matter? Vaguely, I have some tendencies:

• Airplens
• Computers / Retro Tech
• Furries
• Adventure stories
• Yeens
• Still life / Cloud travels
• SPACE SCIFI
• Did I say yeens
• Toy Guns
• Crafting and Manufacturing-centered Designs
• Can't forget the yeens
• ... Give me more suggestions lol

I wonder if any of you guys reading it would be interested. If you actually do take interest in this, and if you do make art and stuff, why not hit me up and we can potentially do something very interesting down the line!

Other things?

I honestly have no idea. I have been somewhat busy with work and stuff. I try to make more time for personal projects AND EXERCISES I guess...
